GTP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nWith two hours to go the 1-2 lead has switched hands from BMW to Cadillac’s luxury, as the Taylor brothers – Jordan ahead of Ricky – lead in their respective #40 and #10 Cadillacs from both Acuras, Nick Yelloly’s #93 in third ahead of the #60 of Tom Blomqvist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
BMW’S 1-2 lead was shortlived as the #25 of Phillip Eng was handed a drive through penalty for speeding in the pit lane. This penalty, coupled with the speed of Porsche’s pit stops saw the #7 Porsche 963 of Julien Andlauer assume the lead during the FCY to recover the Conquest Racing Ferrari with the #24 splitting the Porsches as Kevin Estre was now aboard the third placed #6. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Further back, drive through penalties for speeding on pit lane were awarded to both the #23 Aston Martin Valkyrie of Ross Gunn and the championship leading #31 Cadillac. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And after another pit stop under that FCY the #25 was handed another drive through penalty for identical reasons, dropping it to 10th in class. Having assumed the class lead Andlauer broke away from the pack with Dries Vanthoor’s #24 and Kevin Estre’s #6 also forming a largely unchallenged top three. Estre would also surpass Vanthoor ahead of the next round of pitstops, meaning it lead 1-2 for the first time in the race. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under those pitstops however a shakeup took place, with Tijmen Van Der Helm’s #5 JDC Miller Porsche 963 taking the overall lead for the first time all race thanks to taking less fuel than the competition, with Jordan Taylor’s #40 Cadillac now up to second and the #24 BMW of Dries Vanthoor third ahead of Tom Blomqvist’s #60 Acura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taylor would take the lead into the first corner in the #40, while Van Der Helm’s stout defense of second position gave the WTR-run Cadillac some breathing room in the lead as behind the #24 ran wide on the restart, dropping to sixth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But in that ultimately doomed defense against the #10 Cadillac, the #5 was adjudged to have been too aggressive and was handed a drive through penalty, promoting the Acura pairing of Nick Yelloly and Tom Blomqivst to third and fourth in the #93 and #60 respectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
LMP2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nAfter coming back from a drive through penalty Inter Europol’s #43 of Tom Dillmann leads the way in LMP2 with Parker Thompson’s #52 and the #99 of AO Racing in third with Jonny Edgar at the wheel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With Jonny Edgar installed in the #99 he immediately was on the pace, and closed in on the class-leading #43 of Bijoy Garg, but both dropped behind the #52 of Bryan Herta Autosports and Toby Sowery’s #04 who now ran 1-2. But then the #43 would drop back further after receiving a drive through penalty for leaving a tire unattended during its pit stop. Meanwhile the #18 of Era Motorsport would drop further with a 60sec stop and go penalty for taking more fuel under emergency service than allowed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Garg meanwhile would pit a lap later than the competition, allowing the #8 of Tower Motorsport to assume the lead ahead of the #04 Crowdstrike machine and Bryan Herta Autosport’s #52, the #43 Inter Europol car now sixth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the #43 would fight back with Tom Dillmann at wheel, moving up from sixth at the restart to second in class and straight onto the back of Sebastian Alvarez, who he dispatched at the first corner and consolidated his lead thereafter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
GTD Pro<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nAs the class sees a significant first retirement from the race, as the #1 of Paul Miller Racing is no longer running Harry King has retaken the class lead in his #77 Porsche ahead of the #4 Corvette of Nicky Catsburg and Christopher Mies’ #64 Ford Mustang GT3 after Manthey’s #911 suffered a drive through penalty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the pit stops the #033 Triarsi Competition Ferrari took the lead of the class ahead of Connor Di Philippi’s #1 BMW M4 GT3 Evo of Paul Miller Racing, with Nick Tandy running third in the #77 ‘Rexy’ of AO Racing. Tandy would make light work of those ahead and tear off into the distance in his Porsche while the #4 Corvette of Nicky Catsburg also swiftly moved past the Triarsi machine, who dropped to third. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just before the halfway mark Connor Di Phillipi found the tire barrier at turn eleven, in the #1 from second position with extensive front end damage, becoming the first GTD Pro casualty of the race. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the Risi Ferrari would drop back after being handed a penalty for failing to follow pit lane protocol. Under the pit stops the #59 McLaren of RLL lead the way ahead of Manthey’s #911 with Sandy Mitchell’s #9 Pfaff Lamborghini Temerario and Ben Barker’s #64. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bachler though would soon take the lead from the RLL-run McLaren 720s GT3, as Manthey led for the first time in the racing with Harry King’s #77 now third and closing in on the sole McLaren. But deemed to have defended its position too hard as Nikita Johnson fought back the Manthey Porsche 911 GT3 R was handed a drive through penalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
GTD<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nEduardo Barichello’s #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo maintains its lead of the class with two hours to go, as Conquest Racing’s #34 became the next retirement from the class at the Kink. Dragonspeed’s #81 is now second with Alec Udell at the wheel while contesting third are Winward Racing’s #57 of Inde Dontje and the #45 of Danny Formal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As Eduardo Barichello grew out his lead gap it was eliminated by the race’s next full course yellow as the #34 Ferrari of Conquest Racing found the concrete wall at the Kink, with enough damage resulting from the impact that the race was momentarily neutralised to recover the stricken car, that became the second GTD machine to suffer and early end to its day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Barichello would hold the lead off the restart ahead of Winward’s #57 and the Risi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo as further behind the #912 was handed a drive through penalty for causing an earlier incident with the #21 AF Corse Ferrari. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That #21 would restart the race in the class lead with just over a standard IMSA race to go ahead of Devlin Defrancesco’s #28 RS1 Porsche, with Alec Udell’s #81 of Dragonspeed ahead of the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin, Barichello still at the wheel as the field went back to green. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
