{"id":823,"date":"2025-03-12T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-12T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themotornerd.blog\/?p=823"},"modified":"2025-03-09T10:13:32","modified_gmt":"2025-03-09T10:13:32","slug":"2025-12-hours-of-sebring-race-preview-gtd-pro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/themotornerd.blog\/index.php\/2025\/03\/12\/2025-12-hours-of-sebring-race-preview-gtd-pro\/","title":{"rendered":"2025 12 Hours of Sebring Race Preview: GTD Pro"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Two weeks on from a thrilling ten hour affair in Qatar, the endurance racing world once more turns its attention to the North American scene, with the iconic 12 Hours of Sebring just days away. But who will be vying for GTD Pro honours in Florida?<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Amidst an eleven car, factory backed field include new and improved Ford, who recently claimed their first win with the new Mustang GT3 in a thrilling final hour at Daytona in January. They\u2019ll be hoping for back to back victories in the category, and piloting their two cars will be a strong selection of factory drivers. The Daytona winning #65 sees a returning trio of Frederic Vervisch, with Dennis Olsen and Christopher Mies form a fantastic trio that will no doubt be in contention. Ford have another ace up their sleeves though with the #64 car. Mike Rockerfeller and Sebastian Priaulx may have settled for second in January to complete a Ford 1-2, but they\u2019ll be aiming to outdo their sister team. Austin Cindric is replaced by fellow factory driver Ben Barker, who currently competes in WEC with Ford\u2019s Proton competition run entry.<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The GM-Ford rivalry that was so iconic in Australia&#8217;s V8 Supercars championship has now waged a new battle stateside, as Corvette will be looking to tear their age-old rival a new one. Having had a ton of success in both GTD Pro and the old GTLM category, the Pratt-Miller Motorsports run team will once again feature a well known, highly competitive lineup. Chief among them will be Alexander Sims in the #3 who knows exactly how high octane this class can be. He\u2019ll be joined by spanish pairing Antonio Garcia and Dani Juncadella. Nicky Catsburg, Nico Varrone and Tommy Milner form the #4 lineup.\u00a0<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Attempting to steal the show from America\u2019s big brands will be BMW, who are, it must be said, experiencing something of a hotstreak. Overall wins at the Dubai 24 Hours in January was followed by the Van De Linde brothers\u2019 memorable victory at Bathurst in February and the hope is Paul Miller racing can continue that form stateside. Former member of BMW\u2019s GTP squad Connor Di Phillipi will be alongside Madison Snow and Niel Verhagen in the #1, with #48 piloted by two of BMW\u2019s true young stars Dan Harper and Max Hesse, alongside experienced Fin Jesse Krohn.\u00a0<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>And they\u2019re not the only Germans looking to steal the thunder of GM and Ford, with Porsche fielding an impressive two car lineup themselves. As ever, there\u2019s everyone\u2019s favourite dinosaur and reigning champions Rexy and Laurin Heinrich who team up once more, with Klaus Bachler and Alessio Picariello also joining the fan favourite team\u2019s #77 car. Proton competition will also field a GTD Pro class car, with Richard Leitz, Iron Lynx founder Claudio Schiavoni and Matteo Cressoni forming the #20.<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>With Mercedes absent from this one, the attention turns to the single car entires. Pfaff Motorsports gave everyone a scare last year from their social media when it appeared they might be shutting up shop. Happily, they\u2019re back and with a new car. McLaren are no more, they\u2019ve switched to Lamborghini for the 2025 season of IMSA and are hoping for an improved run here having retired at just over a quarter distance in Daytona. They\u2019ll be putting their faith in Andrea Caldarelli, James Hinchcliffe and Marco Mapelli to cause an upset in the class.\u00a0<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>As ever, Vasser Sullivan are here with a single car in GTD Pro, still running the ageing Lexus RCF that hasn\u2019t been updated since 2017. Ben Barnicoat, Kyle Kirkwood and Aaron Telitz join up to form the #14 lineup.\u00a0<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>And last but not least are Dragonspeed, who\u2019ll be competing once more with Ferrari. Albert Costa, Davide Rigon and Giacomo Altoe will drive the #81 in hope of securing another victory for the uber-successful 296 GT3.<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>So that\u2019s the rundown of GTD Pro at this year\u2019s 12 Hours of Sebring. If it\u2019s anything like Daytona, it\u2019ll be one hell of a race.
