Two down, one more to go! The third race in June’s trilogy of 24 hour battles commences, and with no less than 76 cars across five classes vying for glory, it’s sure to be an epic. But just who will come out on top in the most prestigious GT race in the world? It’s time to close the 72 Hours of June with a scorcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two early dramas in this period were that of the Ziggo Sport Tempesta #93, which momentarily stopped on track before thankfully continuing, causing a short full course yellow. And in similar strife was the #15 BMW Sport Italia car of Connor Di Phillipi who also stopped on track before continuing. Their race wasn’t going brilliantly with the team four laps down, and a long way off the Bronze Cup Podium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The sudden full course yellows meant that Rutronik Racing’s #96 cycled through to the lead of the race and actually held a healthy advantage for some time, pursued as ever by the #63, #998 and both the #50 and #51 Ferraris. But as the #63 then elected to to stop under the the full course yellow period they gained a huge chunk of time and eventually assumed a strong lead when the off-sequence Rutronik Porsche pitted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, there was another puncture this time afflicting the Bronze Cup #52 crew, as the #50 of Alessio Rovera was really pushing trying to make up for lost ground. In fact they ended up running wide and losing yet more time to the leaders, as the sister car #51 slowly made up time to the top three. With the newfound speed in actually caught the #998 ROWE BMW and the two fought hard for fourth on the road, which went the way of the Ferrari. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But other than that it’s been relatively quiet as we approach the final three hours, meaning I’ve taken a short power nap and have been catching up on the race since I re-awakened. On to the final three hours it is!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
